Cooper was born to Edward and Emma (Bronte) Young on July 3, 1934 in Little Rock, AR. He married Deborah Hyde on September 21, 1956. Their son Chad Young was born on August 9, 1959.
On April 23, 1954, Cooper began wrestling in Memphis for the Continental Wrestling Association. He wrestled in the Omaha and Kansas City area in 1956-1959. Between 1960 and 1970, he wrestled in the Amarillo and New Mexico regions. He returned to Memphis in 1971 and began to referee in 1976.
Cooper came over to the MVW to replace A.J. Adams as a referee on August 1, 1981. He refereed matches for the Collierville-Somerville-Pine Bluff Circuit until the Arkansas Circuit was established. He became the head referee and commissioner for the Arkansas Circuit.
Cooper was forced to retire from the ring as a referee in January 2006 after struggling with Parkinson's disease for more than five years. It had become too difficult for him to continue in the ring. He tried to stay on as commissioner, but he died on October 16, 2006.
